St. Thomas school gives special attention to inculcate high standard of moral values and discipline. Parents/guardians are requested to co-operate in this with the school authorities by ensuring regular attendance and punctuality of their wards and strict adherence to the rules of the school. If a student indulges in any serious misconduct, he/she will be expelled from the school with immediate effect.

  1. The children must be in their respective class room at least five minutes before the first bell.
  1. Perfect silence should be maintained during the SILENCE BELL and PRAYER.
  1. Assignments should be submitted ON TIME.
  1. RUDE and ARGUMENTATIVE behaviour with teachers and cabinet will be strictly dealt with.
  1. COMING OUT OF CLASSES unnecessarily and staying away from class is strictly prohibited and will be seriously dealt with.
  1. The children are strictly forbidden to purchase any articles of food from unauthorized dealers outside the school premises.
  1. Cardigans, books, tiffin boxes, water bottles etc. should bear the name of the owner. The school is not responsible for stationery, money, valuable items, and books etc. that get lost.
  1. All applications for certificates must be made in writing. These will only be issued in 24 hours after receipt of the applications.
  1. No pupil is exempted from games, Yoga, music and Physical Training without Medical certificate.
  1. Students are not allowed to receive visitors in the school. Only under urgent circumstances will pupils be allowed to make a phone call.
  1. The Principal has the right to refuse continuation of the studies to a student whose conduct or influence is unsatisfactory.
  1. Students attending online classes are expected to maintain discipline or else strict action will be taken.
  1. Students must not scratch or spoil the desk, write in chalk or pencil on the wall or in any way damage school property like furniture, flowers, flower pots etc. Damage done should be reported at once. Even if it is caused by accident, the damage has to be repaid for.
  1. No “unauthorized” books, magazines, comics or papers may be brought to School without the permission of the Principal or the Incharge.
  1. Students are not permitted to bring any dangerous articles such as knives, razor-blades, guns, daggers, fire-crackers etc. Nor are they allowed to bring cameras, Mobile-phones, Pen drives or other electronic articles to School. If these things are found, they will be confiscated and will not be returned and action will be taken.
  1. During the change of teacher or when going from one class to another they should move in order and silence should be observed. a) Students must speak English in the School premises. b) Students are not allowed to visit the Staff Room.
  1. The photographs to be used for school purposes should be taken in SCHOOL UNIFORM.
  1. Students are strictly prohibited –
    1. To leave the school premises during the school hours, unless they submit to the Principal a letter from their guardians.
    2. To raise subscription.
    3. To give gifts to the members of the staff.
    4. To organize any picnic or tournaments without permission.
  2. Visitors are not allowed to interview the teachers in their respective classrooms during teaching hours. They may do so out of class having made an appointment (use the contact page). All enteries of absence, late coming etc. should be made in this diary and not on sheets of paper.
  1. All St Students are expected to:
    1. Show respect to all the teachers.
    2. Show civilized behavior in and outside school.
    3. Use appropriate and decent language.
    4. Throw all kind of waste in the bins provided for the purpose.
    5. Observe all the rules of good conduct on the streets while coming to or returning from school.
  1. Try and use environment friendly products.
  1. Morning Assembly: The morning Assembly helps each child to display his/her talent and ensure a robust start to the day. It is the most serene feature of the school curriculum where students learn
  1. Plastic free Tiffin: Avoid plastic and help us to keep the school campus plastic free.
  1. Complaint against others: Complaint against any other student of the school, if any, should be brought to the notice of the Class Teacher/Vice-Principal/Principal. Parents are requested not to take the matter to the concerned parents without the consent of the Principal.
  1. Home Tutors: Home Tutor, if any, is not allowed to solve Problems/Exercises in the Text Books/Exercise books. Home tutors are not allowed to meet teachers.
  1. Uniform: Uniform constitutes an important part of the school’s philosophy and the standardization of the dress code abolishes class distinction identifying each child only as a student. Students are not allowed to wear colourful clothes on any occasion. Every student must come to the school in neat and tidy school uniform.
  2. Grooming: Students should take pride in their grooming and personal appearance. Hair should be neat, clean, well brushed and well combed. Extremes of hair cut or styling / colouring are not appropriate and should not be worn by either boys or girls. Bringing cosmetics to school is prohibited.
  1. Discipline: Every student is expected to observe all rules of good conduct. Respect parents, teachers and elders. Respect and care for all the students of the school. Take due care of the school property. Take due care of one’s own belongings and that of other students.
  1. Bullying is strictly prohibited inside the school campus and no such act will go unnoticed or unpunished.
  1. Late Arrival: A fine of Rs. 100/- will be charged for every 10 Late Arrivals.
  1. Collection of money: Collection of money for any purpose without the permission of the Principal is not allowed.
  1. Mobile phones are banned in school campus. If mobile phones recovered from students, Rs. 500/- will be fined.
  1. Meeting Teachers during School Hours: During school hours, parents are not permitted to meet the teachers except with the permission of the Principal.
  • Sick Children: A child who is ill and needs immediate health care should not be sent to school. Requests for half-day leave, short leave etc. are to be avoided.
  1. Criticism of a teacher or the school: Criticism of a teacher or the school in the presence of the child should be avoided, as it causes the child to lose respect for the teacher with consequent failure to learn from the school.
  1. Encourage self-help: As your children advances in age, guide them to become a resourceful and useful member of the family, society and country. Encourage self-help for work and study. They should be taught to keep their room tidy, make their own bed, polish their own shoes, wash their own cloths, carry their own bags etc. Formation of such habits early in life instills in them the sense of dignity of work, a fundamental personal virtue, necessary for a successful career in life.
  1. When students move along the corridors or when they go up or come down the stairs, when changing class or during the recess, they must walk in perfect silence and in single line. They should always keep to the left except when several classes are moving along the corridors or are going up or coming down the stairs.
  1. No student is allowed to remain in the classroom or in the corridors during recess or P.T. periods. Once on the ground, no body may return to the class room without special permission of the vice principal or the teacher in charge. He/she should be accompanied by the monitor.
  1. Use of tobacco/drugs, gutka, pan-parag smoking vaping or any other harmful items are strictly prohibited in the school.
  2. Cycles must be kept locked in the cycle stand and never left standing about the grounds or veranda. On their way to and from school, students must behave decently. Riding the cycle inside the campus is strictly prohibited.
  1. Students must remember that the school is judged by their conduct. Any reported or observed objectionable conduct out of school on the part of the students shall be liable for
  1. St. Thomas keeps zero tolerance for any sort of sexual abuse or bullying. A lady teacher is specially assigned as in charge of girls. The school has a committee (ICC) assigned to deal with such special cases. Disciplinary action.
  1. Any student who is persistently insubordinate or is repeatedly or willfully mischievous, or is guilty of malpractice in connection with the examination, or commits an act of serious indiscipline, and/or misbehave or who in the opinion of the Head of the school has an unwholesome influence on his/her fellow students or whose diligence or progress in studies is steadily unsatisfactory, or whose guardians show little interest in the progress of their wards, may be removed from the school permanently, or for a specified period according to the discretion of the principal.

LEAVE RULES

  • Punctuality is essential at all times and children who do not observe this rule without a valid reason will be penalized.
  • ATTENDENCE ON SCHOOL FUNCTIONS is mandatory.
  •  Regular attendance is a key requisite for all students of St. Thomas. A student should have a minimum of 75 % of class day’s attendance (examination board rule) failing which the student will not receive promotion to the next level. In such cases, such student should repeat in same class or be withdrawn.
  • No student may absent himself/herself without obtaining leave previously, in writing. If for any reason, a student is absent without prior permission, on his/her return he/she must submit a letter from his/her parent/guardian, stating the reason for the absence and obtain permission from the principal or vice principal before entering the class.
  • In all cases of absence, the parents/guardian should make an entry in the student’s diary on the appropriate page marked “Non-Attendance and Leave records”.
  • For cases of absence for one or two days a student may get the records in the diary signed by the Class Teacher along with leave application. But in cases of absence of three or more days, along with the diary entry, an application stating the reason for absence signed by the parent/guardian and countersigned by principal or vice principal must be submitted to the class teacher on joining the class. Absence of three or more days on medical grounds must be confirmed by a copy of medical certificate along with the application.
  • Absence without leave application inevitably invites disciplinary action at the discretion of the principal or vice principal.
  • All are expected to attend school on the reopening day after each vacation period and the day prior to the beginning of vacation.
  • Repeated absence without leave application or unexplained absence-if absent continuously without any information, for more than 8 working days, will be considered as the student’s decision to leave the school and such students name will be struck off from the rolls.

PROMOTION RULES

    • Homework, project works, weekly/unit tests, and term exams are means of assessment that show the growth of the student as well as reveal the areas of weakness. Parents and students are expected to give due seriousness to them as they form an integral part of the teaching-learning program.
    •  Under no circumstances can any arrangement be made to hold any examination before or after the date as laid down by the school management.
    • Any use of unfair means and/or receiving or giving assistance in any form during a test or an examination (detected during or (subsequently) or tampering with evaluated answer papers in any way, or altering the report card, etc. will be punished at the discretion of the school authorities. Any student detected using unfair means will be debarred from continuing the examination and the respective examination will be cancelled which will affect his/her final promotion. In such cases, the parents will be called immediately and suitable punishment may be given. In serious and repeated cases, the student will be asked to leave the school altogether.
    • After the Quarterly and Half Yearly examination the parents are invited to see the answer sheets of their wards and to interact with the class teacher and subject teachers and to take the report card. The parent/guardian of every student is expected to come on the assigned date. Signing and taking the report card/result is necessary for the student’s continuation in the next term.
    • Promotion of student from one standard to another will be made at the end of the school academic year on the basis of the year’s record of work along with the average of the exams held during the whole year. Regular attendance and steady work, therefore, will be conditions for promotion.
    •  To pass in a subject a student should secure minimum of 40% of marks in a subject.
    • Any student who has less than 75% of attendance during the academic year shall be disqualified for writing the examination and promotion.
    •  Promotion from class 8 to class 9 and from class 9 to class 10 will be strictly based on eligibility. Those who fail to secure the minimum required marks in more than one subject will not be enrolled in class 9 and will not be promoted from class 9 to class 10.
    • Those who fail in more than one subject and in English and Hindi in class VIII will be issued a completion certificate from the school.
    • The results declared at the end of the year are final and cannot be reconsidered.
    •  A student who repeats consecutively twice in the same standard will not be permitted to continue his/her studies in the school.
    •  No re-test/re-examination is held for a student who fails to appear for the test/examination. Such an absence without a grave reason and without the approval of the principal implies in completion and will require the student to repeat to complete the studies.
    • Absence from the test/examination implies total loss of marks for those subjects and excludes a student from being considered for promotion.
    • A student who has received promotion to the next standard needs to enrol his/her name in the respective class within the prescribed time after paying the first quarterly fees.
    • A student who does not enrol and turn up for class within seven working days after the beginning of the new academic session will be considered as left the school by his/her own decision.
    • Parents are requested to clear all the fee dues before each Terminal Examination. On clearance of all dues an Admit Card will be issued, which the student should bring to school during the days of Examination. If not, the student will not be allowed to write examination.

RULES OF FEE PAYMENT

  • Timely payment of fees: Parents are requested to pay all the fees well in time.
RECOMMENDATION TO THE PARENTS
  • Parents are strictly advised to refrain from soliciting Private Tuition from the teaching staff of the school, as this might give way to nepotism and favouritism which in the long run prove to be disastrous for the children.
  • Parents are strictly advised to refrain from giving personal gifts to staff expecting any special favours for their wards. Gifts / Tips are not permitted even on Birthdays or Festivals.
  • Parents are requested to provide healthy food in the tiffin box.
  • Parents are expected to co-operate with the school authorities and the teacher by enforcing regularity and discipline, supervising the lesson, talking part in school activities and by sending the boys with proper uniform.
  • Be available if it is necessary, to discuss aspects of your child’s behavior at school. Sign messages, progress reports and or other similar documents when requested to do so, to avoid putting your child through any inconvenience.
  • When communicating with Principal parents/guardians are requested to mentioned in their letter name of the student, class and section
  • Ensure that your ward is not absent on the first and last day of the school term without prior permission and that any leave taken from school is duly explained in the diary and Parents should particularly check their ward’s leave and absence record.
  • Feel free to contact an individual teacher during her/his free periods by taking prior permission from the Principal if you wish to discuss a matter of concern to you or your child.
  • Be open to listening and considering the teachers’ opinions regarding your child, even when the comments may be less than complimentary.
  • Exert firm parental discipline in cases where your child’s behavior is distracting from the quality of learning opportunities for others in the school.
  • Keep your child at home if he is suffering from contagious disease like mumps, measles, chickenpox, small pox, whooping cough, and conjunctivitis and send him to school only with doctor’s fitness certificate.
  • Parents must intimate the school whenever their residential address or telephone number is changed in order to communicate to them on urgent matter, in the interest of their children.
  • Private tuitions are strongly discouraged. It is important that a child develops the habit of working and studying on his own under the guidance of parents.
  • Parents are requested to check the school diary daily and take a note of it and also sign the remarks made in the diary.
  • Parents must give significant time and attention towards the progress and daily work of the children and help them daily in their studies.
  • Parents should make it a point to attend the PARENT TEACHER’S MEETING on given date. The school administration will take a serious view of parents regularly absenting themselves from such meetings.
  • Respect for persons, property and environment should be inculcated in children.
  • Kindly ensure that your child packs his school diary/books/note books/pen/pencil box as per the time table for school every day to avoid being overloaded.
  • This is a minority institution established and administrated by the Catholic Diocese of Gorakhpur with its own stream of administration and as such it does not recognize any association.
